Crayford Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2023
$14.80Shiraz forms the stable known base. Grenache has alcoholic strength but less palate taste and brings to the blend beguiling aromas and a different palate impression to Shiraz. Yet what are these two without Mataro which maintains order by rearranging both and providing a strength of character particularly on the back palate. Still the genius of this wine remains the Grenache.

Brutus Barossa Valley Shiraz Durif 2018
$29.90Now and again our love of Barossa Shiraz combines with the perfect vintage for Durif. The wines sit in barrel, and at some point, the mellowness of both brings out their best. Enough for one barrel so we bottled 33 cases. A big wine and while I do not want customers worrying about alcohol levels you cannot make such a wine unless it is well over 15%. Durif is a Barossa winner.

$18.50The 2021 is exceptional being from the 10/10 vintage 2021. This makes it the eighth release of Ziegenmarkt.
The reasons why the Barossa is associated with rich flavours is complex though is due to the geography, the inland summer heat and cooling air from the west. We now know enough to say that no other place on earth duplicates these conditions. Shiraz takes on a concentrated, heady flavour, with a luxurious mid-palate sensation of fruit sweetness.

$12.20At Glug, wines come and go quickly. Here we have used two varieties from two regions in various proportions. I find more Clare in the final blend than Barossa so look for a touch less heat and higher altitude flavours. Finally explaining the Clare flavours continues to defy me.
