There are other varieties planted, though all in small lots, that have been trialled for several decades and these include, Carignan, Durif, the many Portuguese port varieties, Primitivo or Zinfandel and many others. It is likely a few of these arrivals later found their way to the Barossa Valley becoming part of the fabulous Barossa wine story.
