This is the last of the Grandma Raethel wines and of all of those we have bottled the vintage conditions of 2021 will make this the standout. The first Grandma was a Shiraz 2001 which was released in 2006. There have been many since though the wines are not made every vintage. The Barossa is about the pioneering families and from our first year we knew we wanted to pay homage to the German immigrants that first settled at Bethany and Langmeil in 1841. Not having a German heritage, we developed a proxy heritage brand around the Barossa pioneer family of the Raethels and specifically Betty or Grandma Raethel. The Grandma wines remain true to our belief that Barossa reds reflect the warm climate and location which in classical vintages achieves a flavour depth and fruit sweetness along mid palate, that is not found in wines from any other place globally.
The final release in the Grandma Raethel series, and the standout vintage of them all. Created as a tribute to the German pioneers who settled the Barossa in the 1840s, these wines celebrate the region’s warm-climate style, delivering the deep flavour and mid-palate richness that make Barossa reds unique in the world.
