The Three Hares range of Barossa reds developed from the many Grenache Shiraz Mataro blends that Glug has released since 2005.
What has been recognised is that there is no single blend which best shows for each vintage the beauty of how these three varieties enhance each other. Tastes vary as do winemakers opinions.
With Three Hares Benjamin allows himself flexibility to move between the varieties and let each express its character with backup from the other two.
For the 2020 vintage, the mid year of three hot years, bench trials showed that the beauty of this uniquely Barossa Valley creation was better expressed by altering the major variety between the three. Blend No 3 being Shiraz dominant is the type Barossa blend to commence with and later move on to try Blend No 2 and 1. For example Grenache creates a softer more aromatic wine than you will discover in Blend No 3.
