The first Jackman developed from a vat of red wine we purchased in 2016. This wine was a blend of reds, made up of many varieties mostly Shiraz and Cabernet, from four districts sourced from along the Adelaidean Mount Lofty Range and from three vintages. It came from a high quality, medium sized, Barossa Valley winery.
Now every bottling creates a small quantity of leftovers, and these were added to a large tank in the corner of this winery and that is what we purchased. It arrived with pages of records of the source, variety and vintage this being a requirement of the label integrity program we all adhere to. For some reason this wine was referred to as The Jackman on our invoice.
So, The Jackman became and the No 1 blend we released in 2017. We reached No 8 in July 2020. We also add to the blend so it now continues its journey as a tank in the corner of the Glug winery. The No 13 N.V. continues the varietal mix of No 12. So the blend evolves from the No 1 as this is steadily diluted and remains more in spirit than in flavour. All subsequent additions have been left-over Glug wines.
