Padthaway is the consumers friend. There are 4000 hectares of vines and the resulting wines receive no recognition. In comparison all the vineyards of Tasmania developed from the mid 1970 add up to 1200 hectares.
Lots of publicity, glamour ratings and high prices. The commonsense wine drinking is a contrarian and must search for other districts. The more unfashionable the better as all we are interested in is drinking well at a fair price which reflects the cost of growing and making the wine and is not inflated by subjective opinions.
Fashion and the in crowd beating drums are not our friends. The reason I like serving wines from decanters is because the bottle is not seen. When your guests concentrate on what is in the glass they will be pleasantly surprised and will rise to applaud when you tell them what it cost.
That is the joy of being a smart wine buyer. Drink heartedly – drink well.
