The role of Glug is to know what is on offer within the large wine region we term the Adelaidean Mount Lofty Range. Around 50% of the premium wine made in Australia comes from the thirteen or so designated districts that spread along this mountainous range.
Over the last 12 months we have noted a return to the years prior to 2010 when many wonderful wines were offered to us ex barrel. As noted we seldom purchase wines in bottle as we wish to keep what we purchase in barrel until it is ready for bottling. We are also very particular about the bottling process as it is so easy to impair a wine when bottling small amounts.
So, this wine is a ‘one off’ being a purchase from a boutique and cannot be repeated. Because of this it does not appear as Goat Square or Karrawirra and we use one of our general trademarks, in this case Salem Valley.
Salem Valley, a biblical term, does exist and was used by Charles Flaxman, an important Barossa name, for a valley near the later Angaston Marble quarries in 1842. Back to the wine. Huge in flavour, very much our style, and supports our view that drinkers will find great enjoyment in discovering younger is better. Though being Barossa it will not fall apart for at least 20 years.
