Sensational wine; big, rich and full bodied and will send a shiver down your spine. The brand of Burgoyne has a rich history in the U.K. being the name of the English wine merchant Peter Bond Burgoyne, whose business became the largest importer of Australian wine into the U.K. until the start of the World War 2. Glug has revived the brand as such a history should live on. Since Burgoyne purchased wines from many districts so Glug uses the brand for wines we source from anywhere.
This Cabernet was made from a few barrels purchased from the five-star Clare Valley winery haul which was our significant discovery of 2024. Glug had not offered Clare reds for several years and working with these Cabernets from 2020, 2021 and 2022 has again opened our eyes to the significance of the Clare for quality and because the wines express such unusual micro flavours. We attribute some of the accentuated flavours, like ‘mint’ to the very unusual geographical setting. Far North, high range, surrounded by semi desert yet making for example delicate Riesling, how come?
