South Australia makes around 50% of the country’s premium wines. Predominantly these are warm climate reds in the full-flavoured style. The districts which make the best are McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Clare, Langhorne Creek and Eden Valley. Glug makes and discovers reds from each of these regions.
The difference between McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley is created by the geography with both regions abruptly defined to the east by a prominent fault scrap that rears over each districts pattern of vineyards. The difference is McLaren Vale is a sea-side location as it fronts St Vincent Gulf, while the Barossa Valley is higher, more northern, warmer and further inland. Comparing a bottle of each at a lunch is a wonderful experience.
