When settling into Barossa life back in 2004 we drank every GSM we could find, some over and over again. We also knew from day one that we wanted to be part of bringing the excitement of the GSM blend, made from these three heritage varieties, to our customers.
The first Layla was from 2009 while the entire Harem range is devoted to expressions of these three varieties. Grenache contributes a lighter expression to the normal Barossa sturdiness of its reds and to complement this lead variety we use Mataro and Shiraz which show ripe, juicy, floral characters.
Our favourite restaurant in 2004 and 2005 was Bar Vinum in Angaston and I hope that Layla will give customers an impression of the many glorious lunches we had at this most magnificent of all restaurants. Wines like Layla are part of the hidden genius of the Barossa.
