Glug set up an office in the Veritas-Rolf Binder Barossa Valley winery in 2005. Rolf was keen on Barossa Cabernet and years of tasting with him helped firm up our view that Glug must alert customers to the beauty of Barossa Cabernet.
Now we take in Cabernet grapes and buy select parcels from wineries that use methods we like. From 2010 we have noticed sales have improved and the reason is that the Barossa Valley flavour overrides the varietal flavour and this appeals to our style of customer.
This Cabernet is not like that from say the Yarra Valley. You will detect a varietal resemblance and then the warmth of the Barossa takes over and being the Barossa there is more body weight on the palate. Vintages 2018, 2019 and 2020 provide an interesting drinking experience as I cannot recall three successive vintages with such climate-weather changes. So many vintages are one perfect year after the next and spotting differences leaves you scratching your head. Anyway The Back Block is good drinking and enjoy what Rolf Binder sees in Barossa Cabernet.
