GH63 WIBS Winemakers Individual Barrel Selection Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 15%

Original price was: $14.50.Current price is: $10.00.

Selected from a standout barrel set aside by the winemaker, this bottling shows the powerful side of Barossa Cabernet. Treated in the same way as Shiraz, the result is a wine that is Barossa first and Cabernet second. Rich, full and a reminder that this variety thrives just as impressively in warmer districts.

Winemakers have a way of moving good wines to one side for later inspection so in this respect it is fair to call this the ‘winemakers’ selection. Cabernet is overly praised when from cool climates like the Yarra Valley and Margaret River so drift back to a warmer district and find the power, the sense of wonder, in this brilliant Barossan. Old Cabernet vines date back to the 1890s in the northern Barossa though the modern plantings such as used for this wine date from the 1970s and 1980s.

However while widely planted Cabernet was used in blending and not as a Barossa varietal red. These Individual Barrel bottlings will show why Barossa Cabernet belongs on your dining table. Glug was involved with Barossa Cabernet from our early vintages in 2004 and 2005 though we did not take grapes under contract until 2011. The grapes are treated in the same way as Shiraz so the final wine is Barossa first and Cabernet second.
