The Barossa Valley and Mataro are part of Australian wine history. Interesting topic-the history of wine. Until the modern period wine was transported in bulk with amphora giving way to oak barrels. The intermediary between the grower-maker and the customer was the wine merchant. The wine merchant selected the wines to be exported and for local sale.
At Glug we like our history and resurrected the old merchant trading name of Auld and Burton, Adelaide-London-1871, to represent us in our modern version as wine merchants. We both make and purchase wine made by others. The later are bottled under our historic merchants’ names and a fine example is this Barossa Mataro.
Handmade wines of this quality is what decent wine merchants discover for customers.
