• Auld & Burton Clare & Barossa Valley Cabernet Merlot 2017

    $12.20

At Glug, wines come and go quickly. Here we have used two varieties from two regions in various proportions. I find more Clare in the final blend than Barossa so look for a touch less heat and higher altitude flavours. Finally explaining the Clare flavours continues to defy me.

  • Glug GH66 WIBS Winemakers Individual Barrel Selection Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021

    $14.50

Expect a full rich, very ripe, strongly flavoured Barossan which delivers complex flavours. They preserve a difference so simply enjoy them for this aspect.

  • Old Moppa Road Barossa Valley Durif 2020

    $14.80

Deep in colour with great power describes the style Glug likes. Why the genes of the warm climate loving Shiraz when crossed with those of the high altitude, cool climate Peloursin produce the perfect variety for Australia, Durif, I do not understand. Instead of a mid-way point we have a supercharged Shiraz. Wonderful wine and the aroma will tell you what to expect.

  • Kitts Creek Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019

    $15.80

Where would we be without Barossa Shiraz?

  • Landaus Vintners ‘Blockies’ South Australia Shiraz Mataro 2022

    $8.80

Since the first wine in 2007, the finishing touch to Blockies has come from the use of high-quality Mataro. We believe Mataro is the best all-purpose variety to use when adjusting the wine flavours of warm climate reds. Incidentally Mataro has no role of course in making cool climate reds. Thus, the back palate lift comes from the addition of about 15%, high quality Barossa Valley Mataro. The result is as good as the first we made in 2007.

  • Glug ‘Perfect Strangers’ Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot NV

    $10.40

Steadily, Barossa Valley Cabernet is being restored to the top ranks of the red wine quality ladder.

  • Trial Bin 093 Barossa Cabernet Merlot Cabernet Franc M.V.

    $10.40

Great wines have been produced since the red wine trials of the 1950s by Max Schubert showed us the way. These evolved into Penfolds Range and the sweeping range of Bin numbers of today. This Trial Bin 093 helps us understand the blending of Barossa Valley with Eden Valley wines.

  • Karrawirra Single Vineyard ‘Biscay’ Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

    $26.00

Glug created the first single vineyard Karrawirra wines in 2013. This Biscay Vineyard release continues the tradition. Incidentally most single vineyard Karrawirra wines are from the far northern Barossa where it is hotter.

  • P.B. Burgoyne Eden Valley Riesling 2023

    $11.60

Eden Valley is considered a cool climate district.  Cool climate districts though are not all the same since coolness can come from elevation or latitude or a combination.

Further variations are created by the closeness to the ocean, being a source of cool air, and rainfall as humidity seems to play a role in creating the taste.

  • Crayford Barossa Valley Grenache 2023

Original price was: $14.80.Current price is: $10.00.

The 2023 vintage intrigued us as early on we noted the amazing fruit aromas. Best drink young was one thought and for this Grenache that remains my advice as I find it extraordinary. Treat this like a big, sappy young red. Just gorgeous.

  • Light & Finniss Clare / Barossa Cabernet Merlot 2017

    $11.50

Marrying Clare with the Barossa is a natural idea to explore the taste possibilities of the Adelaidean Mount Lofty Range. This blend is a lively reminder of what is possible.

  • Crayford Barossa Valley Shiraz Durif 2022

    $14.80

What varieties can be used to make wines that create a taste that carries the global badge ‘made in Australia’. Shiraz for sure as it takes on another dimension in our warm regions. Of the many hundreds of other varieties it is work in motion though a Glug favourite for stardom is Durif.

  • P. B. Burgoyne Riverland Shiraz 2022

    $9.50

Great wines can be made from our inland regions, and they have been. Both Mildara and the Berri-Renmano Coop in the 1970s released many superlative wines. Some of the greatest bargains today are made in the Griffith area.  Yet you will never know about them due to the prejudice now built into the reporting and judging of wines. Yes, you have been brainwashed. This Burgoyne is another in our program to make tasty QDR’s short for quaffing dry reds.

  • BVWS Barossa Valley Wine Supply Industrial Strength Barossa Valley Durif 2020

    $16.80

The wines we like to sell have been frowned upon by the Australian wine elite for 50 years. This wine is not about delicacy and finesse which is about searching for flavour and comes from the other side of the ledger, the black side where flavour is everything. Pushes 16% alcohol. Very much a Glug style of red.

  • Village Belle Eden Valley Tempranillo 2021

    $14.50

Village Belle wines explore those that are obscure and not mainstream.

  • P. B. Burgoyne Eden Valley Shiraz 2022

    $13.60

There are some fabulous vineyard clusters and those developed by the Henschke family at Keyneton illustrate the wine quality that can be achieved. The origin of the Burgoyne Shiraz is from the low Eden Valley where the reds are plumper than the far cooler high Eden. Still the low parts of the Eden Valley are one hundred or more metres higher than the Barossa Valley so expect a Shiraz that highlights different flavour aspects.

  • Oakley Adams Langhorne Creek Shiraz 2021

    $12.80

    Impressive Shiraz.

  • Three Hares No.2 Barossa Valley Mataro Grenache Shiraz 2020

    $14.90

It has been apparent since at least the 1940s that the fruit intensity and complex flavours that develop in a suite of varieties is unique to the Barossa Valley.

  • Knotts Mount Lofty Ranges Vermentino 2024

    $13.60

I write this note, glass by my desk. Scented with a difference, shows fragrance, good length, made for Australia-a picnic white, for the anything but Chardonnay crowd. Perhaps serve on your boat on Sydney harbour, during summer of course.

Sourced from a nameless, smart boutique in the Adelaide Hills. For those without a boat, the rest of us, Vermentino like Gruner Veltliner will be one of the very large number of varieties that clamour for attention which you try a few times each year.
