Glug ‘Alpha’ Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022
$14.50An excess of premium wine is building quickly. Even the Barossa Valley will not be spared as production is up 50% in the last 10 years and prices of the fashionable boutiques has doubled, perhaps more. This Glug Alpha is another purchase from a local boutique.
-
Three Hares No.2 Barossa Valley Mataro Grenache Shiraz 2020
$14.90It has been apparent since at least the 1940s that the fruit intensity and complex flavours that develop in a suite of varieties is unique to the Barossa Valley.
-
Glug ‘The Rising Sun’ Barossa Valley Grenache 2022
$13.80The three heritage grapes of the Barossa Valley are Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro.
-
Crayford Barossa Valley Shiraz Durif 2022
$14.80What varieties can be used to make wines that create a taste that carries the global badge ‘made in Australia’. Shiraz for sure as it takes on another dimension in our warm regions. Of the many hundreds of other varieties it is work in motion though a Glug favourite for stardom is Durif.
-
The Green Patch Barossa Valley Riesling 2024
$14.20This Barossa Riesling is an each-way bet showing cool-warm climate features. It is the first we have offered since the retail days of the 1970s. Will age well.
-
Old Moppa Road Barossa Valley Durif 2020
$14.80Deep in colour with great power describes the style Glug likes. Why the genes of the warm climate loving Shiraz when crossed with those of the high altitude, cool climate Peloursin produce the perfect variety for Australia, Durif, I do not understand. Instead of a mid-way point we have a supercharged Shiraz. Wonderful wine and the aroma will tell you what to expect.

The Green Patch Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022
$13.80Original price was: $13.80.$10.80Current price is: $10.80.To describe the setting for this Cabernet we must return to the debate of the role of climate-weather in the development of wine flavours and from this whether cool climate wines are better than warm climate wines.
-
Glug Barossa Valley Mataro Shiraz NV
$12.80Original price was: $12.80.$9.80Current price is: $9.80.For this bottling Mataro is dominant and the amount made increased by adding Barossa Shiraz. The Mataro and Shiraz are premium wines, so we are satisfied with the result. For this bottling Mataro is dominant and the amount made increased by adding Barossa Shiraz. Glug ‘Omar’ Barossa Valley Durif 2019
$15.00Original price was: $15.00.$11.50Current price is: $11.50.If you enjoy Barossa Shiraz, Barossa Durif should become an extension of your drinking.
-
Goat Square Barossa Valley Grenache 2021
$15.80Original price was: $15.80.$14.50Current price is: $14.50.The Goat square wines are about tradition thus we use simple wine making methods which are applied to ripe to fully ripe fruit.
-
Karrawirra Single Vineyard ‘Shea-Oak’ Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
$26.00Because we sell direct, plus offer wines under dozens of brands we do not have the constraints of larger companies. And importantly our ethos is different to a tiny winery offering a few reds and whites.
From this thinking Glug began bottling the best wines as Karrawirra Single Vineyards and others like Goat Square Ziegnmarkt, Brutus and Harem Sultan. Quantities bottled are under 40 cases of each. This Karrawirra She Oak is our best Cabernet from 2019.
-
Bagot Station Barossa Valley Shiraz 2023
$13.40Young reds from the right vintages without hard extract are magnificent. This Bagot reminds me of those deeply coloured and powerful Moulin a Vent-Beaujolais, I imported in the 1970s. Deep in colour, one glass led to another, as did the bottles. How can wine be so pleasant. This vintage produced wines with a pronounced aroma and the winemaker has highlighted this with a light touch in the winery-such as no pressings added back. A must buy though will not evolve into a Karrawirra.
-
BVWS Barossa Valley Wine Supply Industrial Strength Barossa Valley Shiraz Durif 2018
$22.60This Industrial Strength is 15.4% alc/vol. The Italians make a variety of wine called Amarone which is made after the grapes have been partially dehydrated on racks to lower the water level. This Industrial Strength is not made that way as we simply isolated a patch of grapes to make this natural ripe style, fermented dry I quickly add, and what is created is deep in colour and packed with flavour.
-
Mount Eagle Eden Valley Montepulciano 2021
$14.10Montepulciano is a southern Italian variety and the Eden Valley with a more Mediterranean climate than the Barossa is the best place to see how this variety performs in our southern climates.
-
Glug Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet Mataro N.V.
$12.80I preach younger is better and in this case this is balanced by the wine being recently bottled and freshened with 2022 just before bottling. I see the role of this wine as being for the many occasions where a drink is required but not worthy of opening one of the best bottles.
-
Knotts Eden Valley Nero D’Avola 2021
$12.80Glug likes varieties which offer our customers a slight shift in taste. Even better is when a small winery has made more than can be sold allowing us to purchase at keen prices. Hence, after a taste we had no hesitation purchasing the few barrels of this delicious Nero D’Avola, surplus to this tiny winery
-
Harem ‘Rosita’ Barossa Valley Rosé (Grenache Mataro) 2022
$21.00About this Rosé I said, ‘Forget the insinuation of the pale delicate rusty pink colour, as this is simply very great wine which is fruity, bone dry, bitter-sweet and offers challenges’. Insinuation meaning – because it’s a rosé do not expect a simple, quaffing, sweet style. This comment applies to the remarkable Rosita 2022 which will develop for many years.
