P. B. Burgoyne Eden Valley Shiraz 2022
$13.60There are some fabulous vineyard clusters and those developed by the Henschke family at Keyneton illustrate the wine quality that can be achieved. The origin of the Burgoyne Shiraz is from the low Eden Valley where the reds are plumper than the far cooler high Eden. Still the low parts of the Eden Valley are one hundred or more metres higher than the Barossa Valley so expect a Shiraz that highlights different flavour aspects.

Auld & Burton Clare & Barossa Valley Cabernet Merlot 2017
$12.20At Glug, wines come and go quickly. Here we have used two varieties from two regions in various proportions. I find more Clare in the final blend than Barossa so look for a touch less heat and higher altitude flavours. Finally explaining the Clare flavours continues to defy me.
-
P.B. Burgoyne Eden Valley Riesling 2023
$11.60Eden Valley is considered a cool climate district. Cool climate districts though are not all the same since coolness can come from elevation or latitude or a combination.
Further variations are created by the closeness to the ocean, being a source of cool air, and rainfall as humidity seems to play a role in creating the taste.
-
Karrawirra Single Vineyard ‘Biscay’ Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
$26.00Glug created the first single vineyard Karrawirra wines in 2013. This Biscay Vineyard release continues the tradition. Incidentally most single vineyard Karrawirra wines are from the far northern Barossa where it is hotter.
-
Crayford Barossa Valley Shiraz Durif 2022
$14.80What varieties can be used to make wines that create a taste that carries the global badge ‘made in Australia’. Shiraz for sure as it takes on another dimension in our warm regions. Of the many hundreds of other varieties it is work in motion though a Glug favourite for stardom is Durif.
-
Goat Square Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2023
$15.80The best way to sample the taste of Grenache and Mataro is with a GSM blend. Glug have been supporters of this style since our beginning and customers are steadily moving from curiosity to regular enjoyment.
-
Three Hares No.2 Barossa Valley Mataro Grenache Shiraz 2020
$14.90It has been apparent since at least the 1940s that the fruit intensity and complex flavours that develop in a suite of varieties is unique to the Barossa Valley.
-
Goat Square Barossa Valley Grenache 2021
$15.80The Goat square wines are about tradition thus we use simple wine making methods which are applied to ripe to fully ripe fruit.
-
The Green Patch Barossa Valley Riesling 2024
$14.20This Barossa Riesling is an each-way bet showing cool-warm climate features. It is the first we have offered since the retail days of the 1970s. Will age well.
-
Knotts Eden Valley Nero D’Avola 2021
$12.80Glug likes varieties which offer our customers a slight shift in taste. Even better is when a small winery has made more than can be sold allowing us to purchase at keen prices. Hence, after a taste we had no hesitation purchasing the few barrels of this delicious Nero D’Avola, surplus to this tiny winery
-
Stockwell Creek Basket Pressed Barossa Valley Shiraz 2021
$22.50Irrespective of vintage the Barossa Valley has a reputation for full flavoured wines the result of the latitude, elevation and the way warmth is trapped. With Shiraz the results are often astonishing, and a richness with mid-palate weight is achieved that exceeds all other comparable regions. Vintage 2021 is close to 10/10.
-
Glug Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet Mataro N.V.
$12.80I preach younger is better and in this case this is balanced by the wine being recently bottled and freshened with 2022 just before bottling. I see the role of this wine as being for the many occasions where a drink is required but not worthy of opening one of the best bottles.
-
Grandma Raethel Barossa Valley Shiraz 2019
$19.50They are released when ready to drink though the maturation must take place in the barrel not the bottle.
-
Karrawirra Single Vineyard ‘Fan Block’ Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018
$26.00The pick of the best Barossa end up as Karrawirra Single Vineyard bottlings.
-
Harem ‘Rosita’ Barossa Valley Rosé (Grenache Mataro) 2022
$21.00About this Rosé I said, ‘Forget the insinuation of the pale delicate rusty pink colour, as this is simply very great wine which is fruity, bone dry, bitter-sweet and offers challenges’. Insinuation meaning – because it’s a rosé do not expect a simple, quaffing, sweet style. This comment applies to the remarkable Rosita 2022 which will develop for many years.
-
Mount Eagle Eden Valley Montepulciano 2021
$14.10Montepulciano is a southern Italian variety and the Eden Valley with a more Mediterranean climate than the Barossa is the best place to see how this variety performs in our southern climates.

Glug Barossa Valley Shiraz Mix
$175.00 -
Bagot Station Barossa Valley Shiraz 2023
$13.40Young reds from the right vintages without hard extract are magnificent. This Bagot reminds me of those deeply coloured and powerful Moulin a Vent-Beaujolais, I imported in the 1970s. Deep in colour, one glass led to another, as did the bottles. How can wine be so pleasant. This vintage produced wines with a pronounced aroma and the winemaker has highlighted this with a light touch in the winery-such as no pressings added back. A must buy though will not evolve into a Karrawirra.
