Farmers Museum Selection Fine Old Barossa Valley Tawny 750mL

$55.00

Great vintages happen when everything goes just right such as a long even ripening without stress on the vine and thus the bunches of grapes. The excitement grows that 2021 will be one of the classics and I have my finger crossed that it may equal the 1996.

The base of this fabulous wine is a 2004 Barossa Valley Shiraz. Exceptional in its own right and destined for big things. This was purchased from a local winery which do not want their name used. A while back I was lunching at Fino, Seppeltsfield and while the wines were pleasant enough I wanted to move up a notch and did so by purchasing a wee dram of the DP 273 Rich Rare Apera.

This got things moving as just a sniff and a droplet, lasts and lasts, a feature of very old stocks. In the early 1990s I purchased from Seppelsfield a barrel of Para Liqueur Port about 30 years old. This was kept in a cellar at work and the idea was to draw a carafe off now and again for a dinner party. For many reasons this did not work out so it was shipped over to Rolf Binders Veritas winery in the Barossa Valley where it was looked after till 2012.

It was then moved by our winemaker to the Samuel Road winery. The wine itself needed work as it was almost jelly like and this came from Seppeltsfield-like after sales service.

So we now had a small barrel of rare elixir about 58 years old and in top condition. This was the secret sauce added to this Farmers Museum Selection and also why the price is up. It’s a great wine and why I added my name.
