Glug customers to the rescue and we are grateful that you will pay a little more for non-vintage wines so long as the varieties and the district of origin are stated and are premium.
From our early days we wanted Mataro to be a signature Glug variety and tended to make more than we could comfortably sell. Of course, Shiraz with 20% Mataro has been a Barossa Valley staple since the 1950s though the Mataro component was seldom mentioned.
These days we have customers that understand Barossa Mataro so for this bottling Mataro is dominant and the amount made increased by adding Barossa Shiraz. The Mataro and Shiraz are premium wines, so we are satisfied with the result.
