Rosé – where do I start. A splash of red in the white, shake it up and no one will know the difference. Just to be sure, add sweetener, around 10 grams/litre. That should do it. For so long Rosé was not considered to be a real wine. I follow Champagnes for price clues and noted a few decades back that Krug Rosé was fetching high prices and was followed by a stirring in Provencal Rosé sales. Perhaps the Rosé awakening had begun.
I wanted it to happen as Rosé made from the warm climate varieties, Grenache, Mataro and blends of the two is sensational. We have steadily built our Barossa Valley range and recently a bulk purchase from McLaren Vale creates the first under the famous old Roxton label. The first was Roxton McLaren Vale Shiraz 2008.
