The Barossa reds from 2021 are so good that a vintage rating of 10/10 is appropriate. Ideal weather of course covers a large area and reports and tastings of wines from the Limestone Coast-Great South East of S.A. also confirm a great vintage.
Indeed, the release of a limited edition Penfolds Bin 180 Coonawarra Cabernet Shiraz 2021 3L for $18,000 each sold out in one day. Padthaway is north of Coonawarra and this favours Shiraz since it is warmer.
We purchased this bulk parcel last year and with every day that passes it becomes apparent that it was a smart buy. Peter Bond Burgoyne imported his first wines from South Australia for the English market in 1871 and almost 100 years later the first vines were planted in Padthaway in 1964. Our Burgoyne wines are those of the roving wine merchant being from any district in South Australia. The only brief we give ourselves is to discover good wine at a fair price.
