A big advance at Glug which has been learnt after six years of Trial Bin Wines has been the powerful forces that develop from blending.
All companies of course blend wines though the best are Penfolds and Wolf Blass. One of the great Australian reds, spanning the years 1985 to about 2000, was the Wolf Blass Yellow Label blend and while it is still made the time span nominated covered the golden years.
Our Glug winemaker is now making very attractive blends based on a core of Shiraz or Cabernet and then introducing Mataro or Grenache plus other bits and pieces.
The first Diviner was a 2008 Shiraz Cabernet and a number have subsequently appeared. Favoured additions come from Langhorne Creek and the Barossa.
Wines like this are stable and will keep though are really made for consumption within 18 months of purchase.
