Impressive Chardonnay being worthy of high points.
The district of Adelaide Hills covers the higher and thus cooler parts of the Adelaidean Mount Lofty Range and while vineyards date back to the founding years of the colony, the real potential of the district did not appear until the 1980s and 1990s. Petaluma began in 1976 in the Crafers area and was one of the early boutiques to chart the direction.
The Adelaide Hills is now a thriving district with 4000 hectares of vines and 60 wineries. Glug does not have grape contracts and relies on a small group of wineries for whites made to the style which appeals to us, which is fuller and riper for Chardonnay. Around 13.5% is about right for us and this Knotts at 13.7% is close to perfect for Adelaide Hills Chardonnay.
The first Knotts was from the 2010 vintage being a Sauvignon Blanc at 13.1% which also gives an indication of the styles we seek. We ask for a little extra hang time for the grapes as we do for our Barossa Valley fruit.
