At Glug we are not believers in the idea that a variety reaches its zenith at a small location along the wide flavour spectrum created by grapes ripening from warm to cool climate regions. Who is to say what is the best taste as this is a judgement that must be left to consumers.
Still let us face the facts. The Barossa Valley is warmer than the ‘type’ area for Cabernet, being Bordeaux, France and the Barossa is warmer than the Yarra Valley and Margaret River.
The Barossa history of Cabernet is long with plantings dated to at least 1892 as the vines are still bearing at Penfolds Block 42 in the Kalimna district of the northern Barossa.
So accept that the flavours will be riper and fuller and discover a Cabernet of complex tastes.
