Karrawirra Barossa Valley Shiraz 2023

Original price was: $16.50.Current price is: $11.00.

Guardian of the Barossa the 16th Vintage. The first Glug vintage was the 2008 though we revived this brand which was used by Kies Family Wines in 1968. The name is derived from aboriginal peoples and means stands of red gums. The Kara-wirra valley, near Lyndoch was the home of century old red gums of massive size.

The Barossa Valley makes a distinctively flavoured Shiraz which is like no other on the planet. Rich, ripe and full bodied with the fruit on the mid palate often being dense enough that it creates an expression of sweetness even though the wine has been fermented dry. All Barossa wines show an aspect of this though the impression varies from vineyard to vineyard. Thus the grapes that are selected as potentially of Penfolds Grange standard are from vineyards noted for often producing this desirable level.

It is this extra flavour aspect that leads us to produce Karrawirra Singe Vineyards when conditions are right and our winemaking has captured this flavour density. The last Single Vineyard releases were from vintage 2015. We are not proponents of long cellaring and see no harm in opening a bottle of this wine before Xmas. There are 39 cases.
