The Grenache revival started in the late 1980s and early 1990s in the Barossa Valley though was always going to include McLaren Vale as they would have planted a similar range of varieties. Of course they predate the Barossa Valley by several years.
This from, A Family Tradition in Fine Winemaking 125 Years Thomas Hardy and Sons; ‘The first record of vines in the valley dates from 1840, when two neighbours, Hopcroft and Cornock, who lived near the present St Margarets Church, dug cellars and planted small vineyards.’
Alas descendants did not make this wine which we purchased from a post 1990’s special wine maker. As with many Glug offering we buy the surplus wines of others ex barrel that match our standards, these are brought to the Barossa, returned to large mature oak, and bottled as and when we feel they are right.
We may add additions of other wines if the taste is improved though most times we stay true to the intentions of the original maker. Our contribution to the value pipeline is to offer them too you at greatly reduced prices to the original.
