Landaus Vintners ‘The Diviner’ South Australia Shiraz Grenache 2022

The first Diviner was a 2008 vintage being a Shiraz Cabernet. More recent vintages have focussed on blending with Grenache as the aroma and flavour of this remarkable variety creates a more complex, even opulent, decadent flavour. Recall these comments refer to warm climate reds as Grenache reaches its pinnacle from slow ripening in a warm climate. An opulent aroma belies the pale colour of the grape juice yet the power and strength of the finished wine makes it our top choice for blending. If we can discover an exceptional base of Shiraz then we know the use of Grenache will transform the flavour. Both the Diviner and Blockies can be lifted above the humble price point by Grenache and Mataro though the base, Shiraz or Cabernet or some other variety, is of course the key. Finding the type of base wine we want at the price we will pay is the hard part. I rate this Diviner as the best we have made and that is because of the base we discovered last year. Also supplies of warm climate Grenache have improved allowing us to spread this resource into wines like the Diviner.
