When buying, the balance is weighing price against value. When you include social issues like prestige, status, and symbols of success, in the decision it all gets too hard for this old retailer. So this far from humble Shiraz was purchased, blended and bottled because it is a good buy for Glug customers.
Now Burgundy is by far the most overrated wine region on the planet and no wine has anything to do with whether they are worth the money. How they get away with this trick is simply another part of what makes wine so interesting. Back at the other end Glug goes about the simple business of locating good drinks that do not cost much. Langhorne Creek has been a favourite district of ours for 20 years and at their best they rival those of the Barossa and McLaren Vale for quality.
As mentioned, fashion, perception and status trump all in the wine business so I recall a time when Langhorne Creek did not sell at any price. What has changed is the upward price movement of other regions so the light shines brighter on the bargain wines from Langhorne Creek. Alas some wineries are now beginning to charge Barossa prices so while I fear the future. Enjoy what we offer today.
