What makes Cabernet from the Clare Valley so unusual and so special. Cabernet Sauvignon appeared as a new variety in the Bordeaux region of France in the 17th century. Its appeal to growers and wine makers steadily grew and today is the most widely planted red variety globally. Yet it thrives over a wide climate range so we should not be surprised that it transformed, adjusted is a better word, to the very unusual climate of the Clare Valley.
For a brief moment in the 1970s and 1980s The Stanley Leasingham Bin 49 Cabernet was rated as highly as any in the country. Since then many other regions-districts have gained favour and with the purchases split multiple ways the Clare Valley has faded. There is an intriguing beauty about Clare Cabernet and this is captured in the Oakley Adams. Glug did not make the wine with our role being that of identifying the quality, doing a deal and keeping it ‘alive’ in mature oak, as we do with all of our wines. The origin was a five star winery that simply had excess.
