The first vintage was the 2008. The Red Barn wines sit below Karrawirra and Goat Square and are blends of wines we make together with parcels we purchase. The making and blending of all the wines we wish to create does get rather complicated and all we can say is the number of small wine makers has exploded over the last decade increasing the choice. Recall a medium to large winery will create a single brand of 50,000 cases for the local and overseas markets by blending into one lot dozens, even hundreds, of individual tanks and barrels.
We find beauty in all the differences each vineyard and wine maker creates and prefer to offer customers dozens of expressions. Each small difference we reason keeps your drinking interesting. There is a Glug style though which is full bodied, fully ripe, deep colour, lengthy barrel ageing but in mature oak-we do not use new oak, with the aim to preserve the difference however tiny. Our wines also tend to be higher in alcohol than other makers as we like ripe fruit flavours.
